Endorsements

I met Kevin Brackett just over 30 years ago when he was hired by the Solicitor’s Office. Shortly
thereafter, Kevin was assigned as the head drug prosecutor, and I headed up the narcotic unit
for the Rock Hill Police Department. I later left the Rock Hill Police Department after 21 years of
service and worked for Kevin Brackett as his Chief Investigator for another 24 years, now
retired. I knew from the start that Kevin was different than the prior drug prosecutors. Kevin
came up with innovative ways of dealing with the drug case backlog allowing the opportunity to
more effectively prosecute drug traffickers. Kevin is an excellent trial attorney and rose through
the ranks quickly becoming the Deputy Solicitor and later the Solicitor. Kevin is the most
intelligent person that I have ever personally met, and he applies good common sense to
everyday decisions, which is why Kevin can relate to everyone regardless of their background
and educational level. Kevin is not just a boss or supervisor but a great leader. I cannot
remember a time that the office had a situation where Kevin did not have a solution. I know of
very few people that can compete with Kevin Brackett on an intellectual level. More importantly,
I believe in most cases that one can look at a persons’ spouse or companion to get a sense of
the kind of person they really are and if you have ever met Kevin’s wife Susan, one can only
conclude that Kevin Brackett must be a great person. I whole-heartedly endorse Kevin Brackett
for Solicitor and I am proud to actively support his campaign.

Kevin and I were in Law School together and both of us have spent our entire careers as prosecutors in South Carolina. I can find many ways to endorse Kevin Brackett for 16th. Circuit Solicitor… 1) We share family blood. 2) Kevin has proven year after year that he loves and is dedicated to the people he serves. 3) Kevin has a “no fear” approach to fight for what is right. 4) I’ve got to throw in how he, Susan and Molly included my Mother in a lot of their outings, and if she were here Tootie Potts Graham would be his biggest cheer leader. 5) My main endorsement of Kevin Brackett comes as me being one of the victims that had to bury a child because of fentanyl. Friday evening May 31, 2019 my son, Jeremy lost his life to this poison. First thing Saturday morning there was a knock at the door, Kevin Brackett is standing there, with a hug and some tears Kevin helped me better understand this poison. My emotions had gotten out of control, I was hurt but I was also very angry at how this came to be, Kevin’s calming nature helped me put my world back together. It didn’t end there, Kevin continued to call and check in with me, and to this day if I need him I know he is there for me. Thank You Kevin Brackett!

I’ve long admired Kevin Brackett for his indispensable leadership as Solicitor. He has been a role model for all prosecutors in South Carolina, taking a no-nonsense approach to violent crime, fighting for victims’ rights, and finding innovative ways to reduce and eliminate backlogs without compromising on the pursuit of justice. More recently, Kevin has taken on the herculean task of fighting for judicial reform, arguing forcibly that politics has no place in the courtroom or our justice system.
