Worthless Check
Unit
The Worthless Check Unit was established to assist
businesses dealing with the problem of collecting on bad checks they have received. One day
while I was having my fishing reel restrung in a local sports shop I heard the owner of the store complaining about how
the process of collecting on bad checks was so difficult that it wasn’t worth the time it took when the check was a
small amount.
I looked into the matter and discovered that it
would be possible to set up a program that would take the hassle out of the collection for the merchant. The best part was that the cost of running the program would be paid by the people that write the
bad checks so the taxpayers would not have to foot the bill.
In January of 2008 the Unit started processing checks and has already collected over
$50,000 dollars for businesses across the county. I hope to offer the service to businesses
in Union County very soon.
